The former AS Home-IP Installer Page

Well, in case you found this through some old search engine or another, i'm sorry to report that the AS Home-IP project has been cancelled. Yah, bummer, i know.

Anyways, what _used_ to be here was instructions, programs, and scripts that would help you get onto the net via the dial-up modems at UC Santa Barbara.

But, it's no more. These days, i think you can still dial-in to the campus modem pools and run PPP or SLIP, but you'll need a proxy server to talk to anything outside of UCSB. Setting proxies up are relatively easy: Go to Netscape-> Options-> Network Preferences, and set all of your proxies to as.ucsb.edu, port 8080. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, you'd look under View-> Options, and under the Connections tab, again, set the proxies for as.ucsb.edu, port 8080.

Oh, and if you feel like it, you can even _buy_ (gasp!) dial-up modem service for pretty cheap ($15.45/mo) from GTE, in an agreement with Communication Services. Check it out.

Finally, if you live in the dorms, you should look into ResNet, to see about getting hooked up via Ethernet, because this dial-up stuff is totally old-school. >:-P
