Darryl's Home Page

My World Wide Web Pages were black to protest second-class treatment from the US Government for free speech. Read about it at this WWW page.

[Blue Ribbon] Clicking on the blue ribbon to the right will send you to the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Free Speech Online site.

[24 Hours of
Democracy] 24 Hours of Democracy is a cool project celebrating free speech. Check it out!

[New!] Somebody mistook it for a lizard, but i think it really is Fi. She said it's a trait amongst Australian women. Hmmm... (Screen shot grabbed 4/17/96, 10:47 p.m. PST)

The schedule for our intramural Ultimate games is up!

OK, here's my half-hearted attempt at some organization. A new page just for my random contributions (ha!) to the net.

Woohoo! Another mention in Net Soup!

Oh no...it's a counter: [Counter]

Dreaming of fame again, i remembered that a year ago, i got mentioned in Late Show News, an electronic newsletter that comes out every week and reports on television late night television. It also tells you who's gonna be on what shows for the week. It's very cool, and you can subscribe to it via e-mail too.

Aw man, you thought my haircut was bad? Check out my new glasses.

Wow...i'm quite excited. Two of my e-mail tips made it into places of some importance (well, at least to my pitiful little existence). HotWired's Net Soup (kind of like E!'s Talk Soup), and Guy Kawasaki's EvangeList.

Would you believe that these icons: [smiley] [sadsmiley] [gopher]
Are actually being proposed as standard HTML entities?
(That last one is supposed to be for gopher...Buwahahahaha!)

Ickclay Emay!

Zay Vatt?

Looking for information on setting up your A.S. Home-IP account with Windows?

Heh, i was in the Swedish MacWorld over the OJ thing.
(Look at the bottom of my fame page for details)

Not so [New!] stuff:

OK OK...so i finally got a haircut

Hey...the Giant Robot web page is now up and running. Check it out!

Oh my goodness...my MOM is now on the Web. Well, maybe not, but her Statement of on Behalf of the Association of America's Public Television Stations Before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, Education and Related Agencies is. Cool!

And hey, did i mention that it was her BIRTHDAY?

Well, the jury is in, and OJ was found NOT GUILTY. But the real news is: Time Warner screwed up BIG TIME. This was the image that i pulled down from their site at 10:15 a.m., 10/3/95. Check it out!

Oh...and if you're looking for a picture of Art's Cleaning Lady...it's here

And just so it's easier to find...

What i use: Here's my current bookmark list.

Somewhat [Old!] stuff:

Happily not Netscape-enhanced. (Like you want to wait several minutes for stupid background gifs and server push animations to load just to read this.) Nope...the only compatibility i like boast about is with Lynx. (Even my magazine table looks kind of ok in Lynx!)

[Under Construction!]This gif is the alternative symbol "under construction," which is what, of course, this site is. It was graciously donated by www.suck.com--a very sarcastic, cynical, and cool site.

Anyways, on to the show! Let's see.

Who am i?
Well, i'm a 2.5 generation Asian American (Chinese, to be exact) who was born and raised in Alameda, CA. No, i will NOT give you a link to my hometown because that is just too hokey. So you can go to www.city.net and find it yourself. (Actually, i just checked, and we're not there yet. Go figure. Alameda never was that ``Wired'' of a town, but what with Farallon, Spectrum Holobyte and Tribe, they certainly _should_ be.) :P

Anyways, speaking of Asian Americans, lemme give you a link to a nice Asian American Resources Page.

But the big question about me is, do i need a haircut?

What i do: Work on computers and things of that ilk here at the Davidson Library (aka The Library) at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mainly it's things like, ``Darryl, why isn't my printer working?'' (the network hiccuped), or ``Darryl, why did my computer just crash?'' (because you're using DEC Pathworks)

Well anyways, i'm kind of a geek/nerd, but i take comfort in the fact that some of my friends are actually much much worse. For example, Jeff.

Where i've gone!
Hey, i just went on a houseboating trip this past weekend up to Lake Shasta. It was way fun, but i don't think i'm used to solid ground anymore. Everything still seems to be pitching and rolling...like on the boat. Well, at any rate, check out some pictures and movies i took with my little QuickCam. Real photos and artwork to come, after Maka and Cheryl get their film developed.

What i read: Hmm...well, it's my personal belief that people are defined by the magazines they subscribe to (heh).

What i listen to: One of my favorite bands is the Barenaked Ladies. They're from Canada, and well...really cool.

What i watch: Heh...you think i have time for TV with all the time i spend geeking out? Well, ok, i try to at least tape and watch E.R. ("Welcome Back Carter"...what a riot!) i really think it's one of the best shows out there. Also...caught one episode of Murder One. Looked promising. (Sorry, web site for Murder One was out of order).

A few years back (actually, it was many), i got a chance to see Penn and Teller live, in S.F. It was an amazing show. Really entertaining. Now i think they have a semi-official website. Check it out.

Who i listen to: Speaking of people that are really wired, Alex Bennett is a morning DJ/Talk Show host up in San Francisco (Live 105) that i used to listen to all the time. His web page has some very disturbing, demented, perverted stuff, but hey, that's Alex for ya. >:-}

What i stare at: (yeah...shaddup...no supermodel home pages here!) Oh, and like everyone else, i got caught up the 3-D Magic Eye/Stereogram craze from a few years back, and i even found a web page with some neat-o images. i still can't do the cross-eyed method, but i'm trying.

What i play: And one other link...the Ultimate Players Association Home Page. i've been playing Ultimate on and off now for a few years, and it's _really_ fun, so if you get a chance, i highly recommend trying it.

What i think: i'm going to start ranting and raving to the Net, so that V doesn't have to hear me. Here's my first one: Why Apple sucks. Here's another: Why Santa Barbara is lame (first in a series >:-}). Coming soon: Why America Online doesn't suck.

Well, i haven't had time to write about AOL, but hey, they provide Winsock support! (Ok, ok, at $2.95 an hour, but STILL...it's kinda cool).

[New!] Hey...i just moved this section...
Who i've written to: Brushes with semi-greatness.

What i keep forgetting The darned URL to that MIT Electronic Postcards page: http://postcards.www.media.mit.edu/Postcards/ (A great way to send greetings to people who are "wired".)

What i've browsed: Anyways...here's the obligatory hotlist. It's not arranged very well, nor is it very complete or up-to-date, but hey, it's there.

What you should use: If you need to send me something securely, here's my PGP Key
To learn how to use PGP (and you really should), check out this link.

What was on the wall: really cool wall art!

What are YOU looking at? :-P Pictures of me and others
