Messing with dangerous stuff on your Nokia 2120

Remember, always make a backup!

Ok, it's what all you "hackers" have been waiting for... How to reprogram your phone so that you can make free calls to San Salvador!

Yeah, you wish. (So do i...) Oh well. But if you wanted to say, look at the signal strength your phone was getting, or maybe look at exactly how many volts you had left in your battery, or other wonderfully geeky things like that, you have to get into the programming mode: *3001#12345 and then MENU.

(By they way, you can't "backup" what's here, but you sure as heck should _write down_ any settings before you start messing around with them. i guess you could say that this is my disclaimer that at this point, you are venturing into things where you may end up having to take your phone back to where you bought it and giving them a stupid look and saying, "Duh, i gave it to my 15-year old brother and he started pressing buttons, and now it doesn't work.")

ANYways, from the programming mode, you can get turn on the Field Test Display. Here's what that means.

i got that from a page on the l0pht.

From there, they tell you how to change the name on your phone, which is always kind of fun. :-}

Oh, and for kicks, here's the official info about the Nokia 2160. (Alas, i don't have the 2120 anymore, and Nokia doesn't have any information on it on their website anymore.)
